| David S. Alburty: |
David S. (Dave) Alburty and Andrew E. (Andy) Page are the managing partners of InnovaPrep LLC, formed to commercialize the InnovaPrep biological particle concentration process. Dave led Aerosol Engineering at Midwest Research Institute (MRI) until starting AlburtyLab, Inc. AlburtyLab was incorporated in Missouri on June 6, 2005. AlburtyLab has grown organically by providing aerosol R&D services to a growing list of clients and now has a total of 14 full and part-time staff. Total revenues for AlburtyLab since incorporation exceed $1.5 million. AlburtyLab developed, manufactures, and sells a commercial aerosol laboratory instrument, the PITT-3 (http://www.alburtylab.com/products.html). InnovaPrep LLC was started as a division of AlburtyLab in April, 2007 and carved out as an LLC on June 1, 2009.
Dave provides corporate leadership, marketing, engineering and biological expertise. He has authored or co-authored over 100 peer-reviewed technical reports and presentations, and is inventor or co-inventor on six patents (awarded or pending, 3 with Andy Page). In 1994, Dave was a key investor in Adam’s Rib BBQ and Brewpub, Overland Park, Kansas, which was subsequently sold to Nabil’s Restaurant Group of Kansas City, MO. Dave is currently CEO of AlburtyLab, Inc., InnovaPrep LLC, and Chairman of both Boards of Directors. Dave is currently visiting Osaka, Tokyo, and Yokohama, meeting with potential partners for the Japan/Asia market. He is representing InnovaPrep at BioJapan 2009 in Yokohama the week of Oct. 5.
Andrew E. (Andy) Page is co-inventor of the InnovaPrep process. Andy was a scientist in the Applied Engineering Division at MRI for 8 years, until leaving in 2004 to start Page Applied Research LLC. Andy is the inventor or co-inventor on seven patents (awarded or pending) including two for commercially available products. Andy is currently President of InnovaPrep LLC and a member of the Board of Directors.

Business Description |

| About My Business: |
InnovaPrep has developed technology for rapid, automated concentration of biological particles and highly efficient recovery of biological particles from filters, membranes, surfaces, and objects. This intellectual property provides substantial opportunity in many fields including biodefense, medical diagnostics, pharmaceuticals production, environmental and drinking water, and food/beverage quality control. InnovaPrep possesses a strong management team with an intimate understanding of the core InnovaPrep technologies and their fields of application; and vested interest in the success of the company.
Early success will be created over the next 6 months to 1½ years, in part, through the realization of opportunities available, and currently being pursued, in biodefense. Non-diluting funding through biodefense has been and will continue to be instrumental in the further development of the InnovaPrep intellectual property and in the development of new, yet unforeseen technologies. Opportunities currently being pursued by InnovaPrep in biodefense include:
Department of Homeland Security
Department of Defense
Funding is available through these and other biodefense programs for system development and integration. In addition invaluable information is acquired during technology evaluation paid for by these programs. For each system described above, government orders will range from several hundred to as many as 7,000 units over a period of years. Currently, InnovaPrep is constructing two prototype hydrosol concentration systems for ICx Biosystems under phase 3 of their funded IBADS program. Two InnovaPrep technologies, the hydrosol concentrator and the electret filter collection and extraction system, provide an exceptional and unique solution to the JBTDS program requirements. InnovaPrep is positioning itself to be successful through all phases of this program. The first phase of this project will fund several companies to build approximately 28 systems in 2010 for testing and evaluation. The final awardee is expected to build from 5,000 to 7,000 units over a period of about five years.
Early success will also be spurred by sales of hydrosol concentrator systems and by government funding opportunities, such as SBIR grants and others. In addition the the company will also pursue collaborative opportunities with Universities, Research Institutes, and Private Corporations. InnovaPrep has laid the ground work for much of these opportunities through the development and demonstration of InnovaPrep HSC-40 hydrosol concentrator and earlier versions of the hydrosol concentrator technology. To date sales of hydrosol concentrator systems including an early fieldable prototype, the HSC-40, and units for integration into biodefense systems.
Opportunities for technology licensing and for open innovation/collaborative commercial development are being pursued with a prudent and deliberate approach. InnovaPrep is not actively seeking licensing opportunities in the fields of general biotechnology, medical or veterinary diagnostics, because the InnovaPrep technologies that apply to these fields are still rapidly evolving and increasing in value; however, opportunities in water monitoring and in food and beverage safety are being actively pursued. Note: Regulatory hurdles and requirements for high levels of technology readiness coupled with lower price points reduce the attractiveness of the food & beverage market when compared with biodefense opportunities. InnovaPrep is currently in discussions with HACH (part of Danaher) and 3M regarding potential licensing opportunities. Initial success from licensing opportunities will spur a second phase of growth for InnovaPrep within the next two years. An exact time period of success within the potential licensing opportunities is difficult to gauge and may take place on a much shorter time scale.
A third phase of success will be realized over the next few years through opportunities associated with a new hydrosol concentration technology, currently being developed, using disposable concentration tips. This technology more closely matches the requirements for the vast majority of work sample preparation work performed within the fields of medical and veterinary diagnostics, biotechnology, and food safety. In order to support this activity and activities under the earlier growth phases InnovaPrep must position itself correctly through increased marketing and sales efforts; active pursuit of collaborative opportunities and opportunities for licensing agreements; and improved in-house manufacturing and development capabilities, as well as strategic and international alliances with outside manufacturers.
InnovaPrep's completive edge is the creativity and continued ideas and innovations that will grow from the nucleus technology, wet-foam elution of hollow fiber membrane filters. Follow-on technologies have already been developed and additional patents have been filed or will soon be filed. The versatility of this technology and the wide-ranging technical experience of the InnovaPrep leadership will lead to the widespread use of the InnovaPrep process in several different markets. · InnovaPrep is unusual in developing a disruptive technology for sample preparation. The rapidly expanding biotech and related markets will ensure rapid growth opportunities, while adoption by established markets for quality assurance purposes will provide stability and long term revenues. · Worldwide markets are difficult to estimate, and overseas patents are hard to enforce. However, the intrinsic value of rapid, efficient sample concentration has been established by centrifugation and culture-based enrichment over the last 150 years and the ability to automate and speed up concentration will find widespread use, saving money and saving lives in the process. |
